Man jumps off bridge to save $20

PALMETTO, Fla. -- A man who jumped off a bridge after a $20 bill said that's a lot of money when you're broke. Mark Giorgio jumped off a bridge on U.S. Highway 41 into the Manatee River, falling more than 40 feet into the water, just to get his $20 bill back.

Giorgio, 47, said he is homeless and was counting his money as he walked across the bridge when the bill slipped out of his hand.

Giorgio was taken to shore by a passing Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat.

Police officers arrived at the scene after someone called to say they saw a man jump.

Giorgio suffered a couple of cuts and refused medical treatment. He was not arrested.
