Conga record attempt

The western New South Wales city of Dubbo will tomorrow attempt to break the world record for the longest conga line of seniors.

The Guinness Book of Records attempt is to celebrate the 18th birthday of the nation's oldest medical study, the Dubbo Osteoporosis Epidemiology Study.

The Garvan Institute has invited 1,300 people to take part in the conga line, which also aims to raise the profile of the study to secure further government funding.

At least 650 people are expected to be involved in the attempt.

Nurse Janet, who has been involved in the study since it started in 1989, says the music has been chosen and T-shirts printed for the record attempt.

"We've had 650 acceptances and as far as I know the record hasn't been set, we are setting the record so if we can get 600 ... elderly people in this conga line, it's going to be a big record for somebody to beat," she said.
