Delaine Jarrell wanted to buy flowers to plant around the swing in her backyard. It was going to be a surprise for her husband's 73rd birthday.
She went to the Wal-Mart Garden Center, and was picking out the two healthiest plants, when she says, it felt like she was stung by a hornet.
Instead, she says a snake had latched on to her forearm.
"When I brought my hand out, there was a snake attached to my arm, and it hung way down below my knee," said Jarrell.
At this point, Jarrell says she panicked, and her mind flashed back to when she was thirteen.
"A green snake fell out of a tree and wrapped around my neck," said Jarrell. "It stuck with me for the rest of my life."
Back in the garden center, the snake let go. She says Wal-Mart workers told her the snake was not poisonous.
A few days later, when Jarrell says she noticed red streaks running down her arm, she went to the emergency room. She was given medication.
Jarrell says it was a black snake. She doesn't know exactly what kind.
Wal-Mart had no comment.
