A thief ignored millions of pounds worth of diamonds at an exclusive jewellers and, instead, stole the VIP red carpet.
Staff were astonished to see a man sprinting off with the eight-foot runner moments after guests crossed it for a private viewing at Laing's in Frederick Street yesterday.
Inside, jewellery worn by Cate Blanchett, burlesque star Dita von Teese and Elizabeth Hurley was among a glittering array showcased to wealthy clients.
A security guard gave chase and retrieved the carpet, while the thief escaped empty-handed.
"He wouldn't have made a pile from it, so we decided not to pursue the matter," said owner Michael Laing, who hosted the event.
