Cinema proposal

ROMANTIC Tom Lane asked his girlfriend Tina Kilford to marry him — on a home-made film shown at his packed local cinema.

Tina, 36, was tricked into thinking she was going with pals for a night at the movies.

But as she sat watching the trailers Tom suddenly appeared on the screen, wearing a dinner jacket and bow tie and holding a card reading: “Hi Tina”.

Then, as the Joe Cocker song You Are So Beautiful played, Tom showed and discarded 23 cards one by one.

Each bore a message, like “I promise to love you for ever with all of my heart”. And as Tina watched, he held up the final card saying: “Will you marry me?”
Then as the three-minute movie ended, she turned in her seat — to see Tom striding down the cinema aisle. He got down on one knee, produced a ring and proposed.

Stunned Tina said “Yes” as the audience at School for Scoundrels burst into applause.

She said: “When I first noticed him on the screen, I put my ice cream down and said ‘Oh my God’ about ten times.

“It was so romantic of him to go to so much trouble.”

Youth worker Tom and hairdresser Tina have been together for five years.

He spent six weeks planning his proposal, based on the Sixties film of singer Bob Dylan holding flashcards while singing Subterranean Homesick Blues.

He filmed the video with the help of pals and got staff at Cineworld in Weymouth, Dorset, to help. Tom said: “Tina is the most wonderful, kind and funny person I have ever known.
