Mop head thief

A man wearing a mop on his head for a disguise attempted to rob the Chevron Gas Station at 8800 Corkscrew Road in Estero at around 10 p.m. Sunday night, but left empty-handed with his unusual headwear still affixed to the crown of his head, according to a police report of the incident.

The clerk working at the time said a white male, approximately 20 to 25 years of age, entered the gas station and demanded money from the cash register. When the clerk didn’t immediately comply, the mop-topped intruder

struck the register and repeated his demand for money.

The clerk then walked around the counter to confront the suspect, receiving a shove from the uniquely disguised man before the suspect fled the store, knocking over a sunglasses display on his way out.

The clerk said the suspect then proceeded southbound behind the Publix shopping center on foot without taking anything.

The manager of the gas station provided authorities access to surveillance video that confirmed the information the clerk provided.
