A380 lands in UK
The biggest passenger plane in the world has touched down on British soil for the first time.
The 555-seater Airbus A380 superjumbo landed safely at Heathrow Airport's new £105million pier at the west London airport.
British test pilot Ed Strongman was at the controls of the double-decker aircraft. He later met a delegation of VIPs keen to have a tour of the interior.
Among the dignitaries was Chancellor Gordon Brown. He said: "I feel proud to be here and I want to pay tribute to everyone who has made this day possible.
“This plane has arrived with huge popular support and I want to congratulate the pilot. He flew over the Thames today and he told me there was some sign of life in the House of Commons.”
Pilot Mr Strongman said: “It was amazing to see so many faces looking up at me. It made me realise how many people are involved in this project.
"I would like to thank very much all the workers at Broughton and Filton. It was a great flight today.”
