Pubs bans traffic wardens

A Devon publican says he is so fed up with the traffic wardens patrolling a town that he has barred them from all five of his pubs in the area. Paul Thornton has placed distinctive yellow notices, designed to look like parking tickets, in the windows of his pubs in Torbay, banning the wardens.

He attacks their behaviour and claims they are "killing" business in the Bay.

National Car Parks (NCP), who control the Bay's wardens, says all their staff are very professional.
Mr Thornton's signs say: "By order of the management, all traffic wardens are barred from these premises."

Mr Thornton, 46, said: "It is absolutely ludicrous. It is not about me, it is about the whole situation in Torbay. The situation is so bad, but the council does not realise how fed up people are."

Tim Cowan from NCP said: "The way in which we train our attendants is totally brilliant. This is a high profile public service that involves a lot of liaison with the public so our staff are very highly trained in dealing with the public."

Torbay Council, which has a contract with NCP for parking attendants, declined to comment.

Knowing traffic wardens they'll probably ticket the pub for illegal parking on a sidewalk
