London and Hampshire have the greatest concentration of wealthy people in the UK, according to a new "wealth map".
The capital is home to 13 per cent of the wealthiest individuals in the country, while eight per cent live in Hampshire.
But areas that are traditionally seen as less affluent have also made it into the map's top 10, with Yorkshire in third place at 6.1 per cent and Lancashire in sixth (3.8 per cent) behind home counties Surrey (5.8 per cent) and Middlesex (4.8 per cent).
Cheshire, famed for being home to sports stars, is in 11th position with 2.7 per cent of the nation's wealthiest people.
Two Scottish counties make it into the top 20 in the survey by Barclays Wealth Insights of the richest five per cent of the population - who have more than £100,000 in investable assets.
The survey also revealed Britain is increasingly a nation of the self-made rich, with 71 per cent of people saying savings from earnings was one of their key sources of wealth. Inherited wealth ranks third as an income source, named by 30 per cent of people, behind profit from property investments (44 per cent).
Mark Kibblewhite, managing director of Barclays Wealth's private banking division, said there had rarely been a better time to be living in the UK.
