A new type of sock which aims to prevent injuries to top-class trampolinists has been unveiled.
Design student Michael Wood was inspired after seeing the injuries endured by trampolining friends.
The sock has been designed using hard-wearing material where the foot comes into contact with the trampoline. Mr Wood, who also designed the sock to fit round the shape of the foot, said it aimed to reduce friction injuries caused by wearing normal sports socks.
The 22-year-old, from Kelty in Fife, said trampolinists also found specialist shoes currently on the market too hard.
On the trampolinists complaints of using sports socks, he added: "Their feet were bruised, blistered and calloused. They were wearing normal sports socks but these made their feet sweat and their skin became damaged as a result."
Mr Wood discovered that trampolinists jumped 19,500 times in six months during training and 204 jumps per year when competing.
He added: "I designed two different types of sock, one for training which is more robust and one for competition."
The prototype sock forms part of the University of Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art degree show, which opens on 20 May.
