A drunk got so fed up waiting for a bus he stole one, a court heard. David Jager, 42, had been at a local bus station for an hour without the service home turning up.
Then he spotted a single-decker with its keys in the cab.
Prosecutor Julian Herbert said: “He went up to a bus driver asking when the next bus was. “He said, ‘I have been waiting since six o’clock and I am going to steal that bus’. “Mr Jager went and took the keys from the bus, started it up and drove off through the town centre.”
Jager, who was more than twice over the drink-drive limit, eventually crashed into a kerb in Penzance, Cornwall.
The building site worker, from nearby Madron, told cops: “I am very sorry. I have done something stupid.”
He admitted drink-driving and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent. JPs in Truro adjourned sentencing for probation reports.
Jager, given an interim driving ban, said outside court: “I don’t know how I am going to get home from here. I might have to steal another bus at this rate.”
