The mastermind behind the plot to blow up seven transatlantic jets was last night thought to be a Birmingham-born al-Qaeda suspect dubbed Mr Talibrum.Rashid Rauf, 25, allegedly a commander in the terrorist group, was held in Pakistan on Wednesday.
It is thought he organised the training there of seven Brit suicide bombers who aimed to kill thousands in one day.
Rauf’s arrest sparked swoops on 24 suspects across Britain by police desperate to smash the plan to ignite liquid chemical bombs in mid-air.
Rauf, nicknamed Talibrum by cops after Afghanistan’s hated Taliban regime, was one of two English suspects held in Lahore and Karachi on Wednesday night after a British tip-off.
