Nutter

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - An Austrian known for his skydiving stunts on Friday parachuted off Sweden's tallest building in spectacular fashion, but could face criminal charges, officials said.

Felix Baumgartner - who has performed BASE jumps from famous buildings worldwide - parachuted from a helicopter onto the 190-metre (623-foot) tall Turning Torso building in Malmo on Sweden's southwestern coast, before making a second jump down to the street.

He then sped off on a motorcycle and boarded a boat to Denmark before police could arrive, a statement on Baumgartner's website said.

However, property manager HSB reported the stunt to police, saying Baumgartner had trespassed on the building, and could have endangered other workers, HSB Chief Executive Lars Danielsson said.

Danielsson said Baumgartner did not have permission for the stunt, and could easily have been mistaken for a terrorist.

"This is an apartment building and not a circus facility," he said. "I think you have to respect that."

It was unclear whether Baumgartner would face charges.

In a statement on his website, the stuntman said he prepared several weeks for the challenge.

"Landing on the roof with a parachute is something I've wanted to try for a long time, and I did it because they said it was impossible," he said.
