Police are hunting a mystery vigilante who punishes people who chat on a mobile while driving — by slashing their tyres.
The vandal, who has struck more than 20 times in and near Portsmouth, Hants, leaves a note reading: ‘Warning. You have been seen driving while using your mobile phone’.
Police believe he either follows his victims home, or notes their car registration and traces them through the DVLA.
Martin Rowe, from Gosport, Hants, whose tyres were slashed twice in two days, said: “I’m furious. I don’t even use a mobile phone when I am driving.”
Rebecca Rendle, who lives nearby, has also been targeted.
Forensics specialists are testing the notes for fingerprints.
Inspector Kevin Cuffe said: “Whoever is doing this may feel they have some sort of justification, but there’s never an excuse to vandalise the property of others.”
