Western Australia police in Mandurah are targeting a different type of hoon driver(Aussie slang for hooligan ) as part of their campaign to crack down on reckless driving in the city.
Mandurah is one of the state's hoon hot spots, and most of the drivers caught are young males, but the city's traffic police have a new problem.
Senior citizens driving small electric buggies known as "gophers" on Mandurah's roads are emerging as a serious traffic problem.
These older hoons have been seen driving head-on into traffic or crawling along some of the city's busiest roads.
It is illegal to drive gophers on the road but Sergeant David White from the Peel Traffic Unit says that does not stop some seniors.
"Some of the people using them themselves aren't paying that much attention," he said.
To tackle the problem Mandurah police are running free lectures for seniors to explain the road rules.
