Britain is the cash machine capital of Europe, according to a new study.
Britons make the largest number of ATM withdrawals of any country in Europe - 2.7bn in 2005, or more than 42 per person - and the UK has the highest density of cash machines of the large EU member states.
The research by banking industry payment body Apacs also found that there were almost 34 million regular ATM users in Britain, a figure predicted to rise to 40 million by 2015.
A record £172bn was withdrawn from UK cash machines last year, equating to £5,455 per second.
