Parking free-for-all

The suspension of Tewkesbury's only traffic warden has led to a drivers' free-for-all in the market town.

Traders are complaining illegal parking is causing congestion in the streets and is bad for business.

Traffic warden Nigel Greene, 49, was suspended over claims his part-time job as a taxi driver represented a conflict of interest.

Parking tickets

"It's a free-for-all. People are parking on double yellow lines, loading bays, and it's causing quite a lot of problems," said Mike Ricketts, who works at Motorworld on the High Street. It's getting worse in the run-up to Christmas and people are getting fed up."

Gloucestershire Police who employ Mr Greene said drivers who think they can park where they like are in for a shock.

"I can assure you that drivers won't get away with parking anywhere they like," said Sgt Clive Patterson.

On Wednesday community support officers were out on the streets of Tewkesbury issuing parking tickets to offenders.
