Lennon Pie

John Lennon is once again going to light up a Liverpool club - in the form of two 10ft figures which were formerly part of the Blackpool illuminations. The figures of the music legend once formed part of a Beatles tribute display in the Lancashire town.

But when club owner Brian Corrigan, who runs Lathom Hall in Seaforth, saw them in a sale he said he jumped at the chance to buy them. The Fab Four even played at the venue ten times between 1960 and 1961. The figures were originally hung from lampposts in Blackpool.

They were commissioned by pie company Holland's in 2001. Lennon - whose face is a giant pie - was featured in full hippy garb under the banner Hi-Pie.

Mr Corrigan said: "We are well known and we've got a lot of associations with the Beatles. We get a lot of people coming here from all over the world to see our displays. I think it's the only original stage that the Beatles actually played on that is still here - so I'm really please the figures are here, they'll just add to everything."
