Global Lottery

Lottery operator Camelot is planning a worldwide draw — with a £200M jackpot.

The huge prize is the centrepiece of Camelot’s bid to run the UK lottery until 2019 as it faces stiff competition from an Indian rival.

Six or seven balls would be picked out at separate locations across the globe and revealed on TV and the internet. Top prize would go to tickets with all the numbers — as with the current Lotto game.

Camelot is under strong pressure from Sugal and Damani, India’s biggest lottery operator.

Both bids will be scrutinised by the National Lottery Commission. The winner will be chosen this summer and run the game for a decade from 2009.

Camelot said its World Lottery Draw would be monthly and create up to 100 millionaires. Once a year there would be a bigger game with a single prize of about £200million.

Camelot has already received expressions of interest from lotteries in 48 states and countries around the world – and is in ongoing negotiations with individual and multi-jurisdiction lotteries.

The world record for a win is £161million by a builder in the US in 2002.
