Tree funeral

More than 20 people gathered at a funeral – to pay their last respects to a tree.

Mourners recited poems, laid wreaths and sang a song for the beech, which was hacked down last month in case people tripped over its roots.

But a council spokesman said: 'Trees are vital. We only remove them for good reason
