Love thy neighbour

Neighbors say Glen Cook has been a problem for years, but a new arrest at his home on Compass Drive in Orange County this weekend prompted one man's unusual actions.

The sign is so big, you can see it from more than a block away.

"Glen Cook is a thief and drug user. Anyone that associates with him is assumed to be the same. I wish that piece of crap would move out of our neighborhood," the sign reads in red letters.

Aksell made the 4-by-8-foot sign and put it in his front yard. Cook, meanwhile, was arrested by deputies Saturday after he was found with aluminum stolen from Lockhart Middle School. Aksell says years of problems with Cook in the neighborhood inspired the sign.

"Lot of drug deals going on in that house, people coming in and out all day long, all night long and I'm tired of it," he said.

Cook has a lengthy record, including drug possession. Aksell said he's received support for his very public stand, but others worry the sign makes their neighborhood, not just Cook, look like something no one wants.

"The first couple days it was okay, but I think it's time to take it down," said neighbor Suzanne Brandimart.

Aksell said he doesn't know how long the sign will stay up, but it may not be very long. He said he's seen traffic slow down around Cook's home and he thinks the word may finally be getting out.
