QE2 cig haul

A crew member of the QE2 cruise liner has been arrested after 765,000 cigarettes were seized on board the ship.

Customs officers discovered the haul at Southampton Cruise Terminal after the ship arrived from the Mediterranean.

An HM Revenue and Customs spokesman said the revenue allegedly evaded was an estimated £150,000.

Officers said the cigarettes had been loaded in Gibraltar and hidden in a locked loading bay.

A 41-year-old crew member has been released on bail while investigations continue.
