About 900 New Yorkers shed their bottoms - but not their underwear - and took to the 2, 6 and R trains for the seventh annual No Pants Subway Ride.
"This is what I'd be doing anyway on a Saturday - sitting at home with my pants off," proclaimed Matt Gernt, 22, a finance consultant from Harlem, before boarding an R train.
His pal, Nick Wild, 23, couldn't wait to show off his black Speedo, although he did have some concerns. "I'm afraid to catch a disease on a subway seat," he said, before confessing that his dad probably wouldn't approve of the stunt. My mom would laugh, though," he added.
The scantily clad herd was shepherded by Improv Everywhere leaders, who started riding the trains without pants in 2002 with only seven participants. This year, nine other cities, including Chicago, Toronto and Washington, joined in.
"Today, there are a few guys in suits you'd see on the street and you'd never expect to see them with no pants on, and yet here we are," said organizer Jesse Good, 29.
On the 6 train, tourist Casey Deshotels, 32, of Lafayette, La., couldn't believe his eyes. "What the hell is going on? My friends at home aren't gonna believe this," Deshotels said when a man in white briefs sat down next to him and his girlfriend as the "If you see something, say something" announcement played over the loudspeaker. If you see a suspicious package? I think I just did," he added, bursting into laughter.
