Councillors have voted in favour of a plan which could extend the West Highland Way by an extra mile.
The proposals will go out for public consultation before final approval.
The West Highland Way is a 152km (95 miles) long route which links Milngavie, near Glasgow, to Fort William in the Highlands.
The meeting decided on the chairman's casting vote that if the route was to be extended it should finish at the Parade in Fort William town centre.
The popular route is walked by about 50,000 people per year.
It runs from the outskirts of Scotland's largest city to the foot of its highest mountain, following the shores of its largest freshwater loch - Loch Lomond.
The route currently comes to an end about a mile from the centre of Fort William.
