Loyalty pays off

ST PETERSBURG: Three Zenit St Petersburg fans, who had driven more than 15,000 kilometres to watch their team play, were given a new car by the Russian premier league club.

The fans ( Evgeny Stepanov, Aleksandr Zaraysky and Veronika Davidova ) drove from St Petersburg to the eastern port city of Vladivostok on the shores of the Sea of Japan in their old Honda to see Zenit taking on local side Luch-Energiya in a league match last month. Zenit won the match 2-0.

However, the trio had to leave their 1986 Honda Civic behind because the car could not make the return trip and instead take a train back to Russia's second city.

Zenit said on their website that the club presented the fans with a new Toyota Corolla at Sunday's home match against Spartak Nalchik.
