Two home invaders got more than they bargained for when they were confronted by a homeowner trained in martial arts.
The homeowner and his cousin arrived at the Wye Valley Rd. home, in the Birchmount and Ellesmere Rds. area, shortly before midnight Sunday and found two robbers wearing balaclavas and armed with a pistol and a screwdriver, in the bedroom.
The thugs demanded cash, and one was lured from the home with the promise that there was $1,000 in a vehicle. Outside, the martial arts expert elbowed the gunman, knocking his weapon to the ground.
When the other intruder heard his crony shout for help, he rushed outside and picked up the gun and the two started to run away. The homeowner gave chase in his SUV, and one of the bandits fired at the vehicle.
The driver ducked to avoid the shots and hit the robber with the truck. Despite being knocked out of his shoes by the impact, the culprit escaped. One suspect was captured early yesterday morning hiding in a Kennedy Rd. restaurant.
"We heard really loud screams," said a neighbour describing the incident. "I'm scared. It's too close to home," the woman said, declining to give her name. "I lock the doors, I even lock the screen door."
Dashamir Dahri, 29, has been charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, wearing a disguise, and forcible confinement.
