Fuggedaboutit

CHICAGO -- Some Italian-Americans who made a federal case out of a school play have lost their legal battle.

The Italian-Americans were upset over a suburban Chicago school play titled "Fuggedaboutit -- A Little Mobster Comedy." They'd gone to U.S. District Court to halt this weekend's production.

A mother and son had filed a civil rights lawsuit claiming that the play, written by a teacher, promoted hurtful stereotypes in its portrayal of old mobsters.

But a judge ruled that the show at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia can go on. The judge said "public interest cries out for free expression in our schools."

The play is about the opening of an Italian restaurant. Its characters include two elderly mobsters who appear to be up to no good.

At the end, it turns out the mobsters are actually buying surplus food for orphans.
