Poppy appeal 2006

Poppies have been pinned to our lapels for years - but now there's a new way to donate to the Poppy Appeal. It is now possible to download one of three Poppy images to a WAP-enabled mobile phone by texting the word POPPY to 85099.

The three downloads have already proved popular, with 550 downloaded in the first minute of their television launch. As well as their logo, donors also receive a text reminder about the Two Minute Silence on 11 November.

All money raised by the service, as well as the sale of normal poppies, goes to The Royal British Legion who protect the interests, welfare and memory of British serving and ex-Service people and their families.

The 2005 Poppy Appeal raised a total of £24.7million and hope that the new service will see the 2006 total top the £26million mark.
