The manufacture of HP Sauce, a staple of British tables for more than 100 years, is to be moved to Holland, it was announced last week. HP stands for Houses of Parliament. After being made in the Midlands for generations, the condiment will become just another item coming off the production line at the Heinz European Sauces Centre in Elst.
Plans to close the operation were unveiled less than a month after HP threw its support behind a campaign to save another British institution, the greasy spoon cafe. The company said the cafes were falling victim to the spread of continental coffee shops.
However, Heinz did not feel that it had a duty to save another icon whose label was recently given a facelift by the designer Sir Paul Smith.
"There are a number of quintessentially British products which are not made in Britain," a spokesman said. When he was asked to name one, there was a pause.
"The Bentley may be assembled in Britain, but the parts are coming in from Germany.
"I am not sure where Minis are made, but they are owned by BMW."
Demand for HP sauce is increasing by more than three per cent a year and it is sold in 69 countries.

I was given some USA flag fridge magnets with "made in China" on the back. I love seeing signs saying "Made in Britain" on them :)
i was at the czech stop the other day to get some kolaches..and was looking at all the 'tourist trap' knick knacks..texas longhorns, texas college plaques, etc..all made in fucking china...made me sick...
