Big brother in your car

Scientists are developing a computer that will become the ultimate... back seat driver.

The new system will be able to "read" the thoughts and mood of drivers by analysing their facial expressions.

It will know when they are angry, bored or tired and alert them and it could be installed in cars as a safety feature within five years.

The computer program, developed by scientists at Cambridge University, is linked to a camera and tracks 24 facial points, such as eyebrows.

Another 20 key facial movements, like a shake of the head, have also been identified. Combinations of movements linked to moods are then fed into the computer.

Prof Peter Robinson said: "The system would have fantastic potential to improve driver safety and prevent accidents. "

It will be on show at the Royal Society summer exhibition in London tomorrow.

Couldn't they just get married and let their wife tell them how to drive like everyone else?
