Oops is back

ROANOKE, Va. -- Oops is back home safely after a week on the run. The 20-pound Japanese macaque was captured Sunday a week after escaping from Mill Mountain Zoo in Virginia through an unlocked door during cage cleanings at the zoo last Sunday.

Zoo officials got a call about 2 p.m. that Oops was in the back yard of a home over a mile from the zoo. Zoo officials and an animal control officer tracked her through the woods for two hours and got her into a tree.

Blue Ridge Parkway rangers and Roanoke police got involved, shutting down traffic as the Roanoke Fire Department used a ladder truck to get the zoo's veterinarian close enough to shoot Oops with a tranquilizer.

Zoo director Sean Greene said Oops appears to be in good health.

Oops -- who got her name because her birth was accidental -- will be quarantined for about 30 days. Then she'll be reunited with her family.
