Esperance police, in south-eastern Western Australia, have criticised a man who pretended to be dead on a road in a bid to try to get help.
Officers were woken at 4:00am AWST by a woman who said she saw a body on the middle of the South Coast Highway.
She said she was too afraid to stop and went home to phone police.
Detective Sergeant Doug Backhouse says investigating officers later found a man alive on the road.
The man told them he ran out of petrol and thought the best way to stop someone was to lie on the road.
Sergeant Backhouse says the man may not have been so lucky if a road train had come by.

seems like a good idea to me...no one's going to stop for a guy..well, in west we do...people who do walking for excercise are always complaining that people keep stopping to give them rides..
