Brit ambulancemen save Polish pensioner

AMBULANCE workers saved the life of a pensioner who collapsed at home - 1,000 miles away in Poland.

Genowefa Owczarek, 86, was on the phone to her granddaughter Elizabeth Spence - who lives in Surrey - when she said she felt ill.

Mrs Spence, 27, struggled to get through to emergency services in Poland so she dialled 999 and got Surrey ambulance controllers.

They called the Polish Embassy in London and eventually contacted doctors near Mrs Owczarek's home in Gorzow, where they found her dangerously ill.

She was recovering well last night.
