A football fan tried selling his role as best man on eBay so he could watch yesterday's England World Cup match against Portugal.
James Circus offered his seat at the top table at his friend's wedding in Essex. Bidding on the online auction website started at £2 for the role, which includes speech and meal.
Mr Circus, from Wickford in Essex, admitted the bid began as a joke after he bought tickets for the quarter finals but realised it was impossible to go.
He intended to turn up for the wedding at 2pm and carry out his duty handing the rings to the groom, but was determined not to miss the match at 4pm.
He says on eBay that he will be returning from the pub at 7pm to resume his role, adding "and at that point you will have to leave". He added "There must be some non-football fans that have always wanted to do this."

What sort of Brit lets his bride schedule a wedding during World Cup anyway? Odd.
