MIC 5,493 MMU 5,432 after extra time

A group of students and teachers is claiming a new world record after a two-and-a-half day marathon basketball game.

Miyazaki International College and Miyazaki Municipal University from Japan fielded two squads for a 60-hour-long game that ended yesterday evening.

The teams are waiting for the record to be ratified by the Guinness Book of Records.

The current record holders are two teams of students from Duke and North Carolina universities in the US, who played a game earlier this year that lasted more than 57 hours, he said.

In the Japanese contest, a team comprised of students and staff members from MIC beat their counterparts from nearby Miyazaki Municipal University, 5,493-5,432.
