Race the Rattler

The annual 'Race the Rattler' event begins today in Gympie in south-east Queensland.

The event involves individual or team runners racing 18.5 kilometres alongside the historic steam engine by foot.

Marketing manager Sheree Fink says last year was the first year the runners beat the Rattler, making competition fierce this year.

"The majority of the time it has been won by the steam train, but last year the runners got a victory much to the disgust of the driver who's been driving it since it commenced," she said.

"I think he'd won it every year up until last year. So the challenge is definitely out this year."

I'd ride the train till it slows down to come into the station/finishing line , then hop off run like mad and claim my prize :)
