Not Fare !

A 98 year old Grandfather was forced to pay full fare because a bus driver refused to accept he was a pensioner. Jack Holland walks with two sticks and has used a free bus pass for over 30 years – so he might be forgiven for thinking his OAP status was obvious.
But the frail 98-year-old was forced to pay full fare when a "jobsworth" bus driver refused to accept he was a pensioner.

When he lost his pass, the driver of the 574 from Halifax to Midgley would not let him off the £1.90 fare.
Mr Holland tried to explain, but had no luck with the driver. "I just said 'I lost my bus pass'. The driver said 'You'll have to pay full fare'."
He then asked the driver to take down his name and address so operator First Bus could confirm his pensioner status.
"He said, 'I haven't got time, I want £1.90', so I paid him."
Passengers on the bus were in uproar, Mr Holland said.
"People on the bus knew me," he said. "They were shouting out on the bus."

The outraged pensioner, who lives at Luddenden Foot, was appalled by the driver's attitude.
He said: "I felt horrible and I gave him a blast when I got off the bus. I don't want to see him again because I would just hit him with my stick."
Mr Holland is still recovering from two broken legs sustained when he was knocked down by a lorry last September.
The accident resulted in a 10-week stay in intensive care and the removal of four ribs.
First Bus has now apologised to Mr Holland and has said that it will refund the £1.90.
A company spokesman said: "We are most concerned to hear of this and would like to apologise to Mr Holland and his family for the distress caused.
"Although concessionary travel is governed by regulations, we would have expected our driver to have applied common sense to the situation.
"The matter is being investigated by the company and we will be contacting Mr Holland to apologise personally and refund his fare."
